Introduction
Azercosmos is Azerbaijan’s national space agency and leading satellite operator, offering satellite services for telecommunications and Earth observation. Established in 2010, it supports global connectivity, fosters international cooperation, and plays a key role in advancing Azerbaijan’s space industry.
Problem Statement
Azercosmos' existing website was outdated in both design and functionality. It failed to adequately represent the organization’s role as a modern space technology leader and was not user-friendly for global partners, space enthusiasts, and potential talent in the region.

Key issues identified:
-
Outdated design language that did not reflect modern technological innovation.

-
A complex and cluttered navigation system that made it hard for users to find essential information.

Objective and Goals
Azercosmos, required a redesign of their website to align with their evolving mission. As a leader in satellite services and space technology, they needed a platform that not only reflected their technical expertise but also appealed to a global audience. The primary goals were to improve usability, update the aesthetics, and ensure the website communicated their dual focus on nurturing local talent and expanding global connectivity.
The primary objective are:
-
Modernise the look and feel: To represent Azercosmos as a forward-thinking space company.

-
Enhance user experience by improving navigation, information hierarchy, and accessibility.

-
Promote Azercosmos' mission of providing global connectivity and supporting regional talent development.

-
Showcase Azerbaijan’s space industry development and attract international business and talent.

Research and Discovery
I began by conducting stakeholder interviews and analyzing user feedback from the existing website. My research focused on understanding the needs of three primary user groups:
Global partners: Interested in satellite services and business opportunities.
Azerbaijani talent: Looking for career and educational opportunities in the space industry.
Space enthusiasts and researchers: Seeking information on Azercosmos’ mission, projects, and advancements.
Competitive analysis was also performed, examining the websites of leading space organizations such as NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), and SpaceX. This provided insight into industry best practices, user expectations, and design standards for modern space-related websites.

Informations Architecture
I restructured the website’s information architecture to streamline navigation and improve discoverability. The new structure divided content into clear sections, such as
Service and Solutions
Detailed descriptions of satellite services and global connectivity solutions.
Education and Outreach
To promote talent development through educational programs, partnerships, and outreach to inspire future space professionals in Azerbaijan.
International Cooperation
Collaborations with global space agencies and companies on joint projects and technology sharing, strengthening Azerbaijan’s role in the international space industry.

The Design
To to modernise the website while maintaining a professional, authoritative tone. I introduced the following key elements:
Improved Navigation
A Dynamic colour Palette

Accessibility
Ensuring Scalability
Testers reported finding information more easily, with a significant reduction in time spent searching for key services or details.
Featuring deep space blues and contrasting accent colours to evoke the vastness and mystery of space.
The website had to cater to a diverse user base, from technical partners to students. I tackled this by providing simplified overviews of complex topics, with options for users to access more detailed information when needed.
As Azercosmos continues to expand, the website needed to be flexible enough to accommodate future content and functionality. This was achieved this through a modular design system that can easily adapt as the organization grows.

Users noted the professional and modern aesthetic as fitting for a space agency.
Clear CTAs and streamlined pathways for action (e.g., applying for jobs, inquiring about partnerships) were well-received and increased the likelihood of user conversion.

Final Outcome
The redesign of the Azercosmos website successfully met the client’s objectives. The new platform is modern, visually appealing, and user-friendly, providing a seamless experience for all users. It communicates Azercosmos’ role as a leader in satellite services and as a key player in Azerbaijan’s growing space industry.
Key Achievements
-
A streamlined user interface and navigation improved accessibility for both technical and non-technical used.

-
Clear CTAs for business inquiries, career opportunities, and educational programs led to increased user engagement and conversions.

-
The redesigned website effectively presents Azercosmos as a global player in the space industry while highlighting their commitment to nurturing local talent.

Key Learnings
This project highlighted the importance of creating a balance between technical content and
user-friendly design, especially in industries like space technology. Clear communication, intuitive navigation, and an engaging visual design were key to making Azercosmos’ message accessible to a diverse audience.
